This course provides an overview of telecom networks deployed within the telecommunication industry to provide broadband multimedia services. Participants learn about the market and technology drivers for evolution of telecom networks from the early days of analogue voice network to the present days of optical packet networks. The course emphasis is on the current and emerging telecom network technologies such as IP telephony, mobile network evolution to Fifth Generation (5G), Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), fiber to the home (FTTH), Optical transport network (OTN), Internet and data centers, and the Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) applications such as Layer 2 and Layer 3 Virtual Private Networks and MPLS Transport Profile (MPLS-TS). Through lectures and presentations, participants are able to understand the technologies and architectures deployed telecom networks as well as the latest trends in this industry.
